About Christy Ahn
A master dance educator combining classical traditions with modern body alignment science to train the next generation of professional ballet artists.
Currently based in New York City, Christy Ahn is an active faculty member at Bay Ridge Ballet in Brooklyn and Eglevsky Balleton Long Island. Throughout her career, she has sought to demystify classical ballet technique, ensuring that dancers understand the mechanical “why” behind every movement correction.
Her training background is exceptionally diverse, incorporating multiple major ballet methodologies. She began her early training in the Vaganova method in Seoul, Korea, before going on to earn a Master of Arts (MA) in Dance from York University and graduating from the prestigious Teacher Training Program at Canada's National Ballet School (NBS).
Christy is fully accredited by the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD RTS, ARAD) and holds Associate Status (AISTD) in National Dance from the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing. To support dancer longevity and recovery, she is certified in the American Ballet Theatre (ABT) National Training Curriculum (Primary through Level 3) and holds a Pilates Mat-Work Certification from Power Pilates in New York.
Through BalletMentor, Christy offers private coaching that integrates Vaganova alignment, RAD expression, and core stabilization conditioning. Her teaching approach is highly creative and energetic, designed to help dancers break through physical bottlenecks while staying physically and mentally resilient.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which ballet methodology does Ms. Ahn teach?
Christy’s teaching is method-agnostic. Having deep training in the Vaganova method, RAD, and the ABT curriculum, she adapts her corrections to match the specific technique and aesthetic required by your target company or school.
How does Pilates integration help ballet technique?
Classical ballet demands extreme range of motion, but without core stabilization, this leads to lower back, hip, and ankle injuries. Christy integrates Power Pilates principles to help dancers activate their deep transverse abdominis and stabilizing muscles, improving turnout control and jump extension.
Can she review my audition videos and resume?
Yes. Portfolio review is a cornerstone of her coaching. Christy evaluates your classical and contemporary variations, resumes, and audition headshots according to National Ballet School and NYC professional standards to optimize your materials before submission.
How do booking schedules work for virtual students in United States?
Ms. Ahn coaches students both in New York and internationally. Video calls are scheduled taking into account your local timezone (Eastern/Pacific) so they fit neatly around your daily vocational schedule.
